Day 3

Today's update comes to you courtesy of Trent Jones and AJ Coy:

"Today the group attended Musselburgh Baptist Church’s morning service and joined the local believers in worship. It was a unique experience as MBC has a congregation of about 130, providing smaller and more intimate environment for worship. Seeing a church who praises the same God in a much different way was a fantastic experience and opened my eyes to what faith means on a global scale. As today was part of a “missionary weekend” for the church missionaries with twenty plus years of field experience Singapore preached the sermon instead of Graham.

Right after the final prayer it was cool to see that after the service ended, not a single person got up right away and scooted out really quick. Everyone sat there for a minute in silent reflection. It was very insightful and something I think added to the services impact on me as a whole. Most everyone also stuck around for a while after service and talked and shared in fellowship as well. This provided opportunities for members of our group to make connections with people attending the church of all ages and share our experiences and life while learning more of the life of others.

Following our conversations and connection-making we stayed at the church, enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared by volunteers, and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out with people from the church.  Whether playing noisy games of Signs and Mafia with some of our new found Scottish friends or taking walks around Musselburgh, we all had lots of fun. There was a playground nearby and I honestly had more fun there then I ever did at a playground as a kid! Finally, we attended MBC’s evening service where we again heard a sermon from the visiting missionaries followed by a Q&A where we got to learn much about what a life in missions is really like.

We ended the night with a team meeting at Graham’s house where we debriefed and reflected on the trip thus far.  It was great to talk about all of the ways the trip has surprised us and exceeded our expectations.  All in all it was a really eventful day and we made memories which will last a lifetime."
